1. Context

The analysis of the situation of extension and training in Tunisia revealed the following deficiencies:

  • The multiplicity of actors,
  • No links are made between training and extension,
  • Difficulty in procedures
  • The lack of information and communication technologies in agricultural fields.

We are introducing an online learning process that can be translated into training “e-learning” by electronic means. A mode of learning that depends in part or in whole on information and communication technologies in order to organize and facilitate access to information and learning.

The new coaching method allows us to:

  • Reduce restrictions on personnel, location and time;
  • Customize training courses;
  • Promote the autonomy of the learner;
  • Establish e-learning relationships with the teacher or other learners.

 2. Target group

This style of learning targets at the front line those who are part of agricultural extensions and technicians, agricultural trainers, special advisers, consultants of professional agricultural organizations and farmers.

3. Lesson structure and learning objectives

This specialized module includes several sections:

  2. When should farmers apply additional irrigation?
  3. How much water should farmers apply?
  4. Simplified methodology for calculating the Supplementary Irrigation
  5. Interest of the Supplementary Irrigation
  6. Challenges for adopting the practice of supplemental irrigation
  7. Irrigation systems

4. Overall objective

The objective of this work is to clarify the idea of supplementary irrigation and convince farmers that this technique is essential to guarantee a minimum of yield stability and to mitigate the harmful effect of water stress during periods criticism

5. Methodology, certificates and responses

The module is self-paced and is not moderated. It includes an interactive lesson and a test. The learner must pass a short quiz to receive the certificate of completion. The lesson lasts approximately 2 to 3 hours.

The duration of the quiz is 1 hour. It assesses the achievement of the learning objectives of the module. The quiz can be tried unlimited.
